Two Days. Two Paths.
Mahjong is having a moment. More people want to learn the game than ever before.
But learning opportunities are still surprisingly limited. Many beginners struggle to find clear instruction, and many communities simply don’t have anyone teaching the game.
Blue Moon Training days were created to change that.
Day One introduces beginners to the game using the Blue Moon Method.
Day Two explores how to teach that method and bring mahjong to your own community.
For some participants, the journey ends with learning the game.
For others, it becomes the beginning of something bigger.
Inaugural Training Sessions
The upcoming Blue Moon Training sessions in Chicago and Philadelphia will be our inaugural sessions and will serve as beta experiences for the instructor program.
Participants in these first trainings will help us refine the curriculum, materials, and instructor pathway as we continue building the Blue Moon teaching community.
Those who participate in these first sessions will be recognized as Founding Blue Moon Instructors and will receive priority access to future instructor materials and program updates as the program evolves.

DAY ONE
Learn to Play Mahjong
Day One is designed for people who are new to American Mahjong.
Using the Blue Moon Method, we guide players step-by-step through the structure of the game in a way that actually makes sense.
Instead of memorizing rules or feeling lost at the table, participants learn how the game works, how hands are built, and how a round unfolds.
You will leave the day with a solid foundation and the confidence to continue learning and playing.

Instructor training focuses on how to teach the Blue Moon Method so new players feel confident and successful quickly. We cover the structure of the curriculum, how to use the learning materials, and how to guide beginners through the learning process.
This training is not just about how to play mahjong. It’s about how to teach it.

A Natural Pathway.
Many participants attend Day One simply to learn mahjong.
But some discover something else.
After learning the Blue Moon Method as a student, many people begin to imagine sharing that experience with others. They see friends who want to learn. They notice that their community has few opportunities to learn the game.
Day Two exists for exactly that moment.
Learn the game → learn the method → bring it to your community.
By teaching beginners, hosting classes, and creating welcoming places to play, instructors help build local mahjong communities one table at a time.
Some instructors focus on teaching beginners.
- Others host regular games and social gatherings.
- Some organize workshops, tournaments, and community events.

Do I need experience to attend Day One?
No. Day One is designed for beginners.
Do I need to attend both days?
No. You may attend Day One only and continue on to instructor training if that path interests you. Or you may choose to only attend Day Two to learn our method of teaching.
Do I need to be an expert player to attend Day Two?
Not at all. Instructor training focuses on the beginner learning process and the Blue Moon teaching method.
Is certification automatic?
Instructor certification is awarded to participants who successfully complete the Blue Moon Instructor Training process.
Will I be able to teach Blue Moon classes afterward?
Yes. Certified instructors are licensed to teach the Blue Moon Method using Blue Moon learning materials.
